On June 26, 1996, Bookbuilders West members, friends, and relatives enjoyed an evening of socializing and "shopping" at the annual Silent Auction Scholarship Fundraiser. More than 170 people attended the festivities graciously hosted again by Sunset Publishing at their beautiful garden facilities in Menlo Park.

Close to $6,000 was raised to be used exclusively for future scholarship awards. Corporate cash donations totaled around $2,800, and, thanks to other generous donors, the silent auction netted around $3,400. All expenses for the event were covered by ticket sales to attendees.
Although clouds threatened earlier in the day, the sun did appear in time to brighten the atmosphere as guests were treated to delicious hors d'oeuvres. Included in the mouth-watering variety were pizza bites, layered cheese torta with pesto, grilled sausages with mustard cream, beef and chicken satay, apricot-orange glazed chicken drumettes, rosemary roasted potatoes with lime salsa, black bean dip, hot artichoke cheese dip, oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, and fresh strawberries.

In between bites, people perused the varied items available for bidding. Lucky winners will be enjoying bed and breakfast inns, leading area restaurants, department stores, major league sporting events, theater, concerts, prints, golf balls, engagement calendars, wine, original art, software, the Monterey Bay Aquarium, Disneyland, and of course, fabulous books.

Bookbuilders West wishes to thank all those who made the evening such a success: our hostesses, Rita Burgelman and Lorinda Reichert of Sunset Publishing; co-chairs Gwen Larson and Mary Lou Goforth; all the volunteers; the generous contributors of both cash donations and auction bid items; and last, but not least, the Bookbuilders West members who again supported the event with their attendance and participation in the silent auction.
Thank you, everyone.
Bookbuilders West extends a very big thank you to those generous individuals and companies who contributed directly to the BBW Scholarship Fund, who contributed auction items, and who contributed their time to making the event a success.
