Educational Event - April 25th
OFFSHORE SOURCING: Feasibility, Economics, and Publisher/Supplier
Initiatives
Please join Bookbuiders West for a panel
discussion regarding a very hot topic in our Publishing
Industry. Offshore Sourcing is becoming a very large initiative
with many Publishers, Vendors, Freelancers and Service Providers
in the Industry. The Offshore Initiative began with manufacturing
services earlier this decade. In the past few years these
outsourced services now include production, media services,
prepress, editorial, project management, conversion/tagging,
art and design. Benefits as well as drawbacks will be discussed
with the panel, including the tools being used with Professional,
Trade/Reference, School and College Publishers.
Bookbuilders West is pleased to have three very experienced
and traveled Design and Production panel members to discuss
the Feasibility, Economics and Publisher/Supplier Initiatives
in our industry today.

Humanities, Social Sciences & Language
Linda just recently returned from India to visit many off-shore
suppliers and vendors. Linda’s team in San Francisco
and McGraw-Hill Higher Education currently outsource many
of their titles off-shore for composition and pre-press
services.
Vellayan Subbiah
Laserwords
President
Vellayan is currently President with Laserwords, and has
been heavily involved with off-shoring and outsourcing with
India for over 6 years. Prior to this experience, Vellayan
was a consultant at McKinsey&Company. Laserwords is
a production/pre-press provider with operations in the U.S.
and India.
We are pleased to announce the addition of an new speaker.
Mary Hazlewood, Production Technology Manager at John Wiley and Sons, Professional and Trade Division will be joining our panel. For the past six months Mary has been working on the transition of composition and prepress to vendors offshore in India. Mary recently visited India, calling on key suppliers in Delhi, Noida and Channai.
