Required skills:
Publishing: Must understand textbook typesetting, proofreader conventions, book design terminology, and four-color process.

Interpersonal: Must be able to schedule and maintain a complex workflow, and communicate well with others. Willingness to help in urgent situations is required.

Software: Must be proficient in QuarkXpress, the entire Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, Filemaker, Flightcheck, and the Adobe Font Folio. Web experience would be helpful.

This position is responsible for design concept, production and freelance management. Annually, the Senior Designer will be responsible for 50-60 designs adapted from a standard template, and 5-6 complex original designs. In addition, the Sr. Designer will produce 40-50 cover designs annually. The Senior Designer will be required to prepare complex typesetting specifications for books using specific typographic lexicon.

Qualifications: This position requires substantial experience in typography, graphic design, book design, production, and spec writing. Knowledge of color proofing and printing methods is essential. Proficiency working with QuarkXpress, InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator are required. Must have good communication and organizational skills as well as the ability to work under tight deadlines.
